OVERVIEW: Long Beach Transit’s (LBT) College Internship Program is a year-round, paid internship program for undergraduate and graduate students. The Intern will gain real-world work experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of transportation professionals. The Intern will have the opportunity to use problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills to gain valuable experience. The Intern will also work with a mentor for assistance, along with working with various departments to enhance a career path.
As an emerging professional, the Intern will be exposed to LBT’s career opportunities in the public transportation industry. The Intern will gain a deeper awareness of many facets of transportation through LBT’s orientation sessions, cross-departmental projects and teams, as well as internal networking.
GENERAL SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Executive Director/Vice President of Transit Service Delivery & Planningand the guidance of the Manager,Service Planning.The intern role is a developmental position that will be assistinginmaintaining transit operations and ridership associated databases, providing field analysis of service issues, and collecting and analyzing operation data to provide effective and efficient performance measurements and transit planning solutions associated with the operation of LBT’s fixed bus route, Dial-a-Lift, and water taxi services

Under the direction of the Executive Director/Vice President of Organizational Development and Administration (ED/VP), the Administrative Assistant (AA) provides administrative support to the ED/VP in managing the department’s initiatives, strategies, results, priorities, goals, and opportunities. In addition, this position provides support to Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Risk Management, Training and Development, and Environmental, Health and Safety functions within the department.
The AA is a member of a critical cross-departmental Administrative Coordinating Team (ACT), comprised of executive assistants and administrative professionals, whose mission is to improve efficiency and communication across the organization.

The Service Development Planner uses their technical expertise in service planning and scheduling as well as their proficiency with transit operations performance analysis to make effective recommendations and prepare reports and study findings for system-wide continuous improvement and assurance of quality service. The Service Development Planner supports their counterpart – the second Service Development Planner, as well as the Service Planning Assistant Scheduler and Service Planning Administrator.

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor supervises mechanics and utility workers in the maintenance and repair of Long Beach Transit (LBT) buses. This position also requires the incumbent to diagnose vehicle and equipment failures and train new mechanics in proper repair procedures.

The Regulatory Compliance and Civil Rights Officer (RCCRO) coordinates civil rights programs to ensure regulatory compliance of state and federal laws for Long Beach Transit (LBT). The RCCRO monitors and facilitates the application of regulatory guidelines, organizational compliance and Civil Rights programs including, but not limited to, the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Title VI programs.This position requires the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external customers. The incumbent must have knowledge of and ability to interpret applicable state and federal laws and regulations, and to coordinate programs that address the necessary laws and regulations to support LBT’s mission. Long Beach Transit maintains a fleet of buses, which includes 60-ft. articulated buses, gasoline hybrids, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Diesel, and battery propulsions systems. This position performs all types of bus vehicle repairs, inspections, maintenance and electrical repairs, ranging from minor to major. Mechanics that are hired will be placed in “C” classification. Under supervision and training, have opportunities for advancement to "B" and "A" mechanic.
