We are taking this step out of an abundance of caution.   Thank you for your understanding.   Under the direction of the Executive Director/VP, the System Engineer, or Systems Engineer (SE), is responsible for developing the appropriate infrastructure to manage the entire life cycle of a complex computer system or network. Their duties include evaluating current systems to identify inefficiencies and unmet needs, installing new application tools and updating hardware requirements for computer networks. Participate in the design of the agency’s systems architecture, which determines how each part of a system functions independently and in relation to other processes. The Systems Engineers work with the IT team to optimize IT support practices, improve system scalability and adapt existing systems architecture to serve new functions. They act as a liaison between the agency’s leadership and support staff who directly oversee product design and software development.

Under the direction of the Executive Director/VP, Maintenance, and Infrastructure; and the guidance of the Manager, Facilities and Infrastructure; the Project Engineer develops and implements critical infrastructure projects for Long Beach Transit (LBT). The Project Engineer establishes cost estimates; writes Scopes of Work; evaluates proposals and makes recommendations; and manages contractor deliverables. The Project Engineer works cross-departmentally with key departments and units, such as Transit Service Delivery and Planning; the Manager, Transit Customer Amenities; Regulatory Compliance and Civil Rights Officer; as well as externally with municipalities and partner agencies, delving into projects to enhance safety and service quality, as well as enhance the customer experience.

The Intern will gain real-world work experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of transportation professionals. The Intern will have the opportunity to use problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills to gain valuable experience. The Intern will also work with a mentor for assistance, along with working with various departments to enhance a career path.   As an emerging professional, the Intern will be exposed to LBT’s career opportunities in the public transportation industry. The Intern will gain a deeper awareness of many facets of transportation through LBT’s orientation sessions, cross-departmental projects and teams, as well as internal networking.   GENERAL SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Executive Director/VP, Transit Service Delivery and Planning, as well as the guidance of the Manager, the Service Planning  Intern will be assisting in maintaining transit operations and ridership associated databases, providing field analysis of service issues, and collecting and analyzing operation data to provide effective and efficient performance measurements and transit planning solutions associated with the operation of LBT’s fixed-route bus service.

Scheduling responsibilities include the development of fixed-route schedules, blocks, operator runs, rosters and the bid process. Service Development Planner duties include route-and system-level planning, service change evaluations, and short- and long-range transit planning, analyzing the need for transit services and developing strategies to match the service to the identified transit needs.
