Under the direction of the Manager, Communications and Community Relations, the Community Relations Coordinator supports and executes community relations and communications activities that promote a positive image of Long Beach Transit (LBT) and support ridership goals. This position monitors community feedback and transportation-related concerns while implementing outreach efforts to keep the community informed and engaged with LBT’s services.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary ambassador for LBT, engaging customers and the broader community to communicate LBT’s services, programs, and mission with the objective of increasing ridership.
  • Build and sustain relationships with diverse community stakeholders across LBT’s service area, with an emphasis on priority populations including seniors, students, and non-English-speaking communities.
  • Implement community relations action plans including defining and tracking measurable objectives.
  • Maintain and update stakeholder databases, including community contacts, and outreach metrics.
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in community meetings and events to gather feedback, share information, and encourage participation in LBT services.
  • Identify and/or help develop promotional and outreach materials needed to support communications efforts.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for community meetings, neighborhood groups, and public audiences.
  • Gather and document community feedback, input, and concerns to support enhancements to LBT’s services.
  • Manage inventory of promotional items, ensuring availability for distribution at events and in-kind donations.
  • Work evenings and weekends, as needed, to represent LBT at community events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to support outreach events, including transporting and setting up materials
  • Handles sensitive information with discretion and in compliance with applicable policies and requirements
  • Applies a solution-oriented approach when responding to community concerns
  • Follows through on commitments and ensures successful execution of events and assigned responsibilities.
  • Understanding and knowledge of:
    • Community relations strategies and tactics to increase customer engagement.
    • Current trends in community relations and communications.
    • Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Outlook and social media platforms.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Administration, or a related field required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in community engagement, communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in customer service or community relations in a public-facing environment required.
  • Public speaking experience preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency preferred, with Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Valid Class C California driver’s license required.

 

Physical Requirement:

  • Able to lift, carry, and set up heavy materials (30–40 lbs) while supporting the physical and logistical needs of community engagement and outreach events.

 

Salary range:  $70,123 - $96,814 per year (Depending on Experience)

 

Compensation packages are determined based on a variety of factors specific to each candidate, including geographic location, skillset, the mix of relevant education, certifications, experience level, and performance. At Long Beach Transit, compensation decisions are made considering the unique requirements and circumstances of each position.
