The Maintenance Analyst provides critical analytical and operational support to the Maintenance Department, focusing on data management, performance reporting, and process improvements to optimize maintenance operations. This role involves validating and analyzing operational data, maintaining key performance indicators (KPIs), and assisting in the transition to a new ERP/EAM system. The Maintenance Analyst also plays a key role in managing the operating budget, providing support for capital project planning, and ensuring financial accuracy through invoice reconciliation and audit support. By contributing to the development and documentation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operational processes, the Maintenance Analyst ensures efficient and consistent maintenance operations while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, validate, and analyze maintenance data, including fleet performance, component failures, and preventive maintenance compliance, to prepare reports and presentations for decision-making.
  • Help to develop relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure effectiveness and efficiency of maintenance operation.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards to track KPIs such as Mean Distance Between Failure (MDBF), preventive maintenance compliance, and parts usage efficiency.
  • Oversee daily data entry and reconciliation for mileage, fuel usage, parts consumption, repairs, and charging data for Battery Electric Buses (BEBs).
  • Assist in the creation and management of the operating budget and participate in the development of the capital budget, providing input on projects and expenditures.
  • Analyze component failures, inventory levels, and consumables to recommend improvements in maintenance operations and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Research on emerging technologies and innovative maintenance strategies to improve maintenance processes and outcomes.
  • Recommend process improvements and assist in the implementation of new tools or workflows to enhance efficiency.
  • Provide data and analysis for internal stakeholders, supporting decision-making related to budget management, fleet performance, and cost reduction strategies.
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operational processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on asset management systems, providing training and support to staff.
  • Assist in invoice reconciliation for maintenance-related expenses, including parts, labor, and services.
  • Provide analytical support in capital project planning, contributing to budgets, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Participate in the transition to a new ERP/EAM system, including testing, data migration, and user training.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay informed about trends in maintenance operations and asset management.
  • Collaborate with Finance on financial reporting, journal entries, and provide support for audits to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in ad-hoc analysis, project planning, and any other tasks related to the maintenance department's objectives.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance processes and reduce costs (e.g., implementing industry best practices to enhance maintenance efficiency, minimizing equipment downtime through predictive and preventive maintenance).

Attributes and Skillsets:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to validate data, and identify discrepancies and provide actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in Power BI, Excel, SQL, and experience with ERP/EAM systems.
  • Ability to communicate complex data insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external vendors.

Education and Experience:

 

A bachelor’s degree in data science, business administration, engineering, information technology, or related field is preferred. A degree in mechanical or electrical engineering can also be beneficial.  Three years of experience in data analysis, reporting, or maintenance operations is highly desirable. Familiarity with maintenance systems and fleet operations is preferred.  Experience in project management, including planning, execution, and monitoring of maintenance-related projects

 

Salary Range: $77,135 - $106,495 per year (Depending on Experience)

 

Compensation packages are determined based on a variety of factors specific to each candidate, including geographic location, skillset, the mix of relevant education, certifications, experience level, and performance. At Long Beach Transit, compensation decisions are made considering the unique requirements and circumstances of each position.
