The Staff Accountant performs a variety of professional level accounting duties involved in preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling financial transactions, statements, records, and reports; performs duties in the areas of general ledger accounting, budgeting, and treasury functions; completes special accounting analyses; and provides responsible staff assistance to assigned management staff.

Responsibilities

 

  • Researches, prepares, and posts routine and non-routine journal entries to the general ledger using a computerized integrated financial system.
  • Reconciles, analyzes, and prepares a variety of financial statements, general and subsidiary ledgers, supporting schedules, and other financial and statistical reports.
  • Prepares monthly departmental financial statements, and quarterly revenue and expenditure reports, along with supporting schedules in accordance with established internal accounting procedures and reporting guidelines.
  • Assists Senior Accountant with general ledger analysis, leading the monthly financial analysis meeting and preparing the monthly financial analysis report.
  • Leads the agency’s fixed asset module including additions, disposals, and reconciliations.
  • Partners with internal stakeholders to tag capital assets and conduct physical inventory.
  • Audits, reconciles, and supports accounts payable transactions to assure conformance with agency reporting standards and to achieve operational needs reconciliation with the general ledger.
  • Compiles and distributes monthly budget reports to all departments.
  • Prepares work papers and various reports for federal and state agencies as well as for internal accounting.
  • Assists with annual independent financial audit and other special audits by preparing accounting schedules and providing supporting data associated with specific accounting transactions.

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college/university is required.
  • Two years of accounting experience is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Salary Range: $59,808- $80,741 per year (Depending on Qualifications)

 

Actual compensation packages consider a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to geographic location; skill sets; relevant education and certifications; depth of experience; performance; and other business and agency needs.  At Long Beach Transit compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each role and it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range.
