Overview

Under the direction of the Utility Supervisor, the Utility Worker performs a variety of duties related to the cleaning and servicing of Long Beach Transit (LBT) buses and other vehicles and equipment, facility grounds, and work areas.

 

Responsibilities

  • Fuels, checks water and oil levels of LBT vehicles
  • Operates buses for servicing and maintenance purposes
  • Sweeps, mops, and prepares bus interior and exterior for bus washing
  • Makes bus changes on vehicle routes
  • Drives buses between LBT facilities
  • Sweeps, mops, and cleans work areas and grounds
  • Assists with moving furniture and equipment
  • Removes fare revenue and records information
  • Operates a variety of equipment including forklift and ground scrubber/sweeper
  • Places and replaces fliers and advertisements in buses
  • Observes safety rules and contributes to a safe working environment for self and others
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Candidates must be 21 years or older with a valid California Class C driver's license, an excellent safe driving record, and the ability to upgrade to a Class B license.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

                     

The equivalent of a high school diploma or GED. Six months of full-time related work experience in a position successfully performing janitorial and/or industrial cleaning duties or a position responsible for the cleaning, maintenance and/or servicing of a variety of vehicles. 

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

 

The essential functions of the job are performed in a shop environment and outside in various weather conditions.  This job requires stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, standing, walking, carrying, and heavy lifting.

 

Start Rate: $25.68
