  • Overview

    Long Beach Transit’s (LBT) Student Internship Program offers career-minded college/university students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience. The Intern will have the opportunity to use problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills to gain valuable experience. The Intern will also work with a mentor for assistance along with working with various departments to enhance their career path. 


    The Intern will be exposed to LBT’s career opportunities in the transportation industry. The Intern will gain deeper awareness of many facets of transportation through LBT’s orientation, cross-divisional projects and teams, as well as internal networking.


    Normal Hiring Range: $15.00 to $17.00/hour depending on education level. Part-time employment is approximately 20 hours per week not to exceed 1,000 hours within a continuous 12-month period. This position does not offer benefits. 

    Participation in the Internship Program is not an offer of regular full-time or part-time employment with LBT and it does not guarantee future employment with LBT.  



    Under the direction of the Maintenance Operations Planner, the Intern will be involved with Maintenance Data Analysis (MDA) at LBT. The Intern will directly assist with a wide range of tasks and projects related to data integrity, key performance indicators, and special department projects. The Intern will also assist in various tasks and projects which includes extracting data from multiple sources, normalizing and merging data from different sources, preparing data and loading into various software’s such as Access, Excel, Power BI, and Tableau with intermediate to advanced level formulas and techniques to create reports.


    ·         Assisting in analysis and preparing key performance indicator reports

    ·         Reporting on monthly budget performance

    ·         Performing warehouse material analysis

    ·         Assisting in the preparation of our capital budget reports

    ·         Conducting internal audits and writing standard operating procedures

    ·         Other duties as assigned




    The successful candidate will be a full time student maintaining a 2.7 or above GPA at the undergraduate level or maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA at the graduate level pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Math or a related field. Transcripts and class schedules are required. Ability to work in a highly collaborative team setting. Candidate must demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills and be a self-starter who is able to work with limited supervision and has a strong desire to learn. Demonstrated leadership experience through school or extracurricular activities or projects is a plus. Good communication and organizational skills as well as proficiency in Microsoft office suite.
