    Long Beach Transit’s (LBT) Student Intern Program offers career-minded college/university students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience. The Intern will have the opportunity to use problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills to gain valuable experience. The Intern will also work with a mentor for assistance along with working with various departments to enhance their career path. 


    The Intern will be exposed to LBT''s career opportunities in the transportation industry. The Inter will gain deeper awareness of many facets of transportation through LBT's orientation, cross-divisional projects and teams, as well as internal networking.


    Normal Hiring Range: $15.00 to $17.00/hour depending on education level. Part-time employment is approximately 20 hours per week not to exceed 1,000 hours within a continuous 12-month period. This position does not offer benefits. 

    Participation in the Internship Program is not an offer of regular full-time or part-time employment with LBT and it does not guarantee future employment with LBT.




    Under the direction of the Regulatory Compliance and Civil Rights Officer (RCCRO), the Intern will assist in representing the interests of LBT, while coordinating programs and activities pertaining to federal and state program compliance.





    • Assists in monitoring and tracking federally funded procurements for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and Small Business Enterprise (SBE) participation using compliance software
    • Attends meetings with business groups, disability groups and other advocacy groups 
    • Supports the building of collaborative relationships with key community, business and advocacy groups representing LBT
    • Assists with business networking event planning
    • Tracks and helps coordinate event participation and external engagement activities
    • Disseminates information, plans, input and concerns expressed by stakeholders to various LBT departments, as appropriate
    • Contributes to the preparation of the department’s program materials, and other documents
    • Other duties be assigned






    The successful candidate will be a full-time student maintaining a 2.7 or above GPA at the undergraduate level or maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA at the graduate level pursuing a Bachelor of Arts/Science or Master of Arts/Science in Political Science, Public Administration, Urban/City Planning, Communications or related field. Familiarity with Microsoft office suite and Adobe suite preferred. Excellent written, oral and presentation skills required.
