  • Overview

     The Senior Accountant prepares financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards; monitors and reconciles general ledger accounts; performs analysis of various financial data; prepares statistical comparative reports for management; and provides professional accounting support to management in various areas.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


    • Prepares financial statements, general and subsidiary ledgers, supporting schedules, and other financial and statistical reports
    • Establishes and maintains complete files and records related to assigned functions
    • Participates in the maintenance of various computer files and records; inputs and retrieves a variety of fiscal and statistical information
    • Prepares and records monthly and year-end journal entries and ensures amounts are verified and supported with valid documents
    • Facilitates and completes month-end system closing procedures
    • Analyzes revenues and expenses against budget including monitoring contract expenses and reporting on variances
    • Responsible for the acquisition, disposal and reconciliation of the company’s Fixed Assets
    • Performs monthly reconciliation of various accounts, investigates and resolves variances or discrepancies
    • Prepares financial reports and cost studies using various statistical and analytical techniques and makes recommendations for procedural changes based on study results
    • Participates in the annual budget preparation by assisting in financial and budget data distribution, analysis and reporting
    • Provides technical assistance to various departments on accounting or budget matters
    • Prepares monthly, quarterly and yearly tax and government required reports
    • Participates in financial and government audits
    • Recommends improved accounting methods and procedures
    • Prepares documentation and monitors internal controls
    • Performs account payable functions as required
    • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relations with those contacted in the performance of assigned duties
    • Complies with all safety regulations as stated in the company safety program, and reports safety-related accidents, incidents, and unsafe work conditions. Attends safety-training programs as required
    • Other duties may be assigned






    Knowledge of:

    • Governmental fund accounting
    • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for Government (GAAP)
    • Government Accounting Standards Boards Statement (GASB)
    • Audit methods and practices
    • Knowledge of practices, procedures and principles of business accounting, public finance, grants accounting, auditing and budgeting
    • Effective oral and written communication skills
    • Microsoft office suite including Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook

    Minimum five years of general accounting experience. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a closely related field is required. CPA designation preferred.  Valid CA Class C license and a good driving record required.
